Would You Visit Any Of These Houses From Movies And Television?
Houses in movies and television can be as famous and iconic as the characters themselves. Whether existing only in establishing shots or used as a set, houses play an important role in the stories we love to watch. Here are some of those iconic houses that you can actually visit.
A Christmas Story (3159 W 11th St, Cleveland, OH 44109)
This holiday classic takes place in the 1940s, and the decor of the family home reflects that. The house still stands, and it is now an Airbnb—you can actually sleep in Ralphie’s room.
New Girl (836 Traction Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90013)
Interiors for the apartment in New Girl were shot on a soundstage, but the establishing shots are of a building in downtown Los Angeles. As it’s a private residential building, visiting it really just means seeing it from the outside, unless you want to rent a unit.

Full House (1709 Broderick St, San Francisco, CA 94115)
The opening credits of the 90s sitcom Full House show a row of classic San Francisco houses known as The Painted Ladies. These Victorian houses are iconic and have been used as establishing shots in countless movies and TV shows. Since it’s a private residence, visitors need to keep their distance.

Bird Box (304 N Canyon Blvd, Monrovia, CA 91016)
This house was featured in the thriller Bird Box and can be found outside Los Angeles. According to the owner, the house has been featured in three other movies as well.
The Amityville Horror (19112 Ocean Ave, Amityville, NY 11701)
The house in this 70s horror film is famous for looking scary: the Dutch Colonial Revival house featured quarter-moon windows on the upper floor. When lit at night, the windows gave the appearance of eyes, which, given the house’s reputation, was unsettling. There have been numerous owners since the 1970s, and those windows have been replaced by regular rectangular windows.
Boy Meets World (4196 Colfax Ave, Studio City, CA 91604)
This is a regular suburban home, and although it’s located in Studio City, California, it’s a real house. Sold for $1.5 million in 2016, it is easily accessible but remains a private residence.

Hocus Pocus (318 Essex St, Salem, MA 01970)
This Colonial house in Salem, MA, is well-suited as a witch’s residence, but it is very much a real home. The house is now a museum and is open to the public.
Breaking Bad (3828 Piermont Dr NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111)
Walter White's house is real, right there in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The owners understand people want to see it. However, they do want people to stop throwing whole pizzas onto their roof.

Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone (12 Picket Post Close, Winkfield Row, Bracknell RG12 9FG)
For the first Harry Potter film, this house was used for the exterior shots of Harry’s house. The interiors themselves were shot on a soundstage at Warner Brothers Studios in the UK. You can visit the studios, but probably won’t find any of the sets still standing.

Silence Of The Lambs (8 Circle St, Layton, Perryopolis, Pennsylvania 15473)
Would you want to visit Buffalo Bill’s house? It’s located in rural Pennsylvania, so it takes a bit of a drive to find. However, if you’re hoping to get a look at the basement, you should know that those scenes were shot on a soundstage far away from this house.

Sabrina The Teenage Witch (64 E Main St, Freehold, NJ 07728)
Spellman Manor is an actual building, although it’s not called that in real life. If you want to make a pilgrimage to Freehold, New Jersey, you can visit this house, which in actuality is rented out to several local businesses. The inside is accessible, but it won’t look anything like the interiors of the show.
The Holiday (1883 Orlando Rd, San Marino, CA 91108)
The 10,324-square-foot mansion featured in this film is located in San Marino, California. With a pool, spa, tennis court, and full media room, it’s pretty much what you expect from a Southern California mansion.

Twilight (3333 NW Quimby St, Portland, OR 97210)
The house in The Twilight Saga is almost as famous as the characters themselves. Built on a slope, it appears to be floating in the trees, and it is a very real house. It can be viewed from the street if you’re ever in Portland.
Hocus Pocus (3 Ocean Ave, Salem, MA 01970)
This 2022 reboot/sequel to the original 1993 film is also shot, appropriately enough, in Salem, MA. A beautiful waterfront property, this house is a private residence that can only be viewed from the street.

Sex And The City (66 Perry St, New York, NY 10014)
Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment was a key element throughout the show’s run (and into the first movie). The building is small, and the owners have blocked the stairs with a chain and a no trespassing sign.
