A Timeline Of Taylor Swift's Boyfriends From Joe Jonas To Travis Kelce

Exes And O's

When Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce got together it made news around the world. But that's something Swift is pretty used to by now given that she has spent the last almost two decades in the pop culture spotlight. Not only has the media talked about everyone she's dated, Swift herself has spoken about many of her past relationships via some subtle, and not so subtle, song lyrics. So, come take a trip with us down Swiftie memory lane as we travel through a timeline of Taylor Swift's boyfriends. Starting with.....

Joe Jonas: 2008

Swift and Joe Jonas dated for about four months back in 2008. That is, until he broke up with her in a 27-second phone call. Swift wrote the ironically-titled "Forever and Always" about the Jonas brother.

Lucas Till: 2009

Before he became the new MacGyver, Till dated Swift briefly in 2009. The two soon realized they were better as friends.

Taylor Lautner: 2009

For a few months back in 2009, Taylor Swift was on Team Jacob. She met the Twilight star when they played a couple in the movie, Valentine’s Day. "Back To December" was about Lautner.

John Mayer: 2009

Mayer was 15 years older than Swift when the two dated for a few months in 2009. Although they didn't confirm the relationship at the time, Swift's song, "Dear John", is believed by many to be about Mayer. Although again, Swift has never confirmed those assumptions.

Jake Gyllenhaal: 2010-11

It was supposedly the 10-year age difference that led to the breakup. She wrote "The Last Time" about Gyllenhaal.

Connor Kennedy: 2012

Swift's "obsession" with the Kennedy family led to her initial friendship with RFK Jr's son, Connor. They dated for a couple months.

Harry Styles: 2012-13

This was one of the most talked about pop star pairings since JT and Britney. The couple got together at the end of 2012. However, busy schedules led to the end of “Haylor” in early 2013.

Calvin Harris: 2015-16

This one lasted longer than any of her previously mentioned pairings. Swift and Harris were together for 15 months. Unfortunately, things got a little ugly after the breakup, with some issues arising concerning writing credit for Harris' track, "This Is What You Came For" (Swift did some vocals on the song under a fake name).

Tom Hiddleston: 2016

Hiddleston and Swift were photographed together in public just two weeks post her breakup with Harris. Reports had it that the couple broke up after three months because Hiddleston wanted their relationship to be more public than what Swift was comfortable with at the time.

Joe Alwyn: 2017-23

Okay, now things are getting serious here. After meeting at the 2016 MET Gala, Swift and Alwyn were together for five years when news of their breakup shocked Swifties everywhere. According to sources, the couple had just "grown apart".

Matt Healy: 2023

After getting together with Healy, Swift told fans: "I’ve just never been this happy in my life... It’s not just the tour". However, her rebound with Healy only lasted a month. Sources said they "realized they’re not really compatible with each other." Although, in anticipation of her new album, Healy had these angry and threatening words for his ex: "Do not come for me... Trust me. You know who I’m talking to. Honestly, you know who you are. I’m as mental as I seem. I have the receipts".

Travis Kelce: 2023-Forever?

Travis Kelce asked Taylor Swift out after watching her Eras Tour performance at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. "I threw the ball in her court and told her, ‘I’ve seen you rock the stage at Arrowhead, you might have to come see me rock the stage at Arrowhead and see which one’s a little more lit'". Apparently the cheesy line worked, because Swift came to watch him play, and by August/September of 2023 they were dating. Will this be the end of the list for good? Only time will tell.

Pop Culture References Baby Boomers Love That Most Millennials Wouldn't Understand

Boomers often assume these references are universal—timeless, obvious, self-explanatory. Millennials hear them and nod politely, the same way you do when someone explains a dream that only mattered to them.

When Phil Collins lost his marriage to fame, his heartbreak poured into “In The Air Tonight,” the song that still defines him.

Some songs feel like diary entries accidentally left on the radio. “In The Air Tonight” is one of those rare tracks that sounds less like a hit single and more like a private meltdown set to echoing synths and a famously delayed drum fill. By the time Phil Collins released it in 1981, he wasn’t trying to reinvent pop music—he was trying to survive the wreckage of his personal life. What came out instead was a haunting anthem that turned private heartbreak into public mythology and permanently fused Collins’ name to four minutes of restrained fury.

Loretta Lynn was banned from radio for “The Pill,” but her defiance helped pave the way for future female country stars.

Country music has never been short on heartbreak, sin, or scandal—but for decades, it preferred those topics safely filtered through male voices. Then Loretta Lynn showed up and started singing about women’s lives the way women actually lived them. When she released “The Pill,” the genre wasn’t just uncomfortable—it panicked. The backlash was fierce, the bans were real, and the conversation she sparked never stopped echoing.

Everyone Hated These Songs On The Radio In The 70s. We Need More Like Them In 2026

In the 1970s, radio was full of songs people loved to complain about—some because they were overplayed, others because they were bold, obvious, theatrical, or even a little embarrassing. People groaned, mocked them, and secretly knew every word. Ask those same listeners today, and most would probably admit that this kind of fearless personality is exactly what modern music is missing.
