5 Infamous Feuds In Music History

Big pop stars have big egos, and big egos tend to clash with each other. Here are some of the latest feuds to come out of the music industry in recent times:

Mariah Carey vs. Jennifer Lopez

Mariah Carey has made it publicly known that she "does not know" Jennifer Lopez. In her memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey, Carey explained that her distaste for J-Lo stemmed from her divorce from Tommy Mottola, the former Sony Music CEO.

Carey claimed that Mottola tried to sabotage her 2001 film Glitter and its hit song "Loverboy" by using Lopez's song "I'm Real." During production, Carey claimed that Sony executives discovered a part of her song "Firecracker" in "Loverboy" and they used it in Lopez's "I'm Real" without her permission. After Glitter was released, Carey made changes to "Loverboy" to make sure it was sonically different from "I'm Real" when it was released.

Taylor Swift vs. Kanye West

Taylor Swift and Kanye West have never been cordial with each other ever since that shocking moment at the 2009 MTV VMAs. Their feud started when the rapper interrupted Swift's acceptance speech for Video of the Year, claiming that Beyonce should have won instead.

He later apologized for his behavior—but then in 2016, West released the track "Famous" with controversial lyrics hinting at a possible intimate encounter with Taylor.

Nicki Minaj vs. Cardi B

You would think female rappers would be more supportive of each other considering the challenges they go through, but there's only one throne, and the fight for it gets messy. It's difficult to say exactly when their feud started, but some reports claim it began in 2017 when the two jumped on the Migos track "Motorsport."

After the video for the song was released in November, it was revealed that Nicki and Cardi recorded their scenes individually, leading to assumptions of tension between them. It then came out that Migos added Cardi B without asking Nicki Minaj, and Cardi's record label, Atlantic, allegedly asked for changes to Nicki's lyrics. This chain of events made it inevitable that a feud between the two artists would ensue.

Lady Gaga vs. Madonna

Comparisons between Lady Gaga and Madonna are the main reason why their feud came to be. During most of the 2010s, the two celebrities were involved in a conflict mainly centered around Gaga's song "Born This Way," which many critics, like the Queen of Pop, believed had a strong similarity to Madonna's popular track "Express Yourself."

Ever since then, the two have been indirectly exchanging shady comments about each other during press appearances. One of the most famous moments was when Madonna called Gaga "reductive" in a TV interview with ABC News.

Rihanna vs. Ciara

Over a decade ago, Rihanna and Ciara were involved in a heated Twitter exchange that will forever be remembered. It all started when Ciara made an appearance as a guest judge on E!'s Fashion Police on February 25, 2011. While watching the show, Ciara saw a picture of Rihanna at the BRIT Awards and decided to talk about the singer.

“I ran into her recently at a party and she wasn’t the nicest and it’s crazy because I’ve always loved and respected what she’s done with fashion. I’ve ran into her before, but this time it wasn’t the most pleasant run-in,” said Ciara.

Well, tt seems like Rihanna was tuning in to the show as she posted on Twitter soon after, “My bad ci, did I 4get to tip u? #howrudeofme.”
