Spielberg vs. Scorsese: Who Is The Better Director—According To The Numbers

Steven vs. Marty

Who is the better director: Steven Spielberg or Martin Scorsese? Yes, we know that movie making is an art and art is definitely more than just numbers. But, we also thought it could be fun to look at the numbers and use them to determine the winner here. So, who do you think is the better director? Now, see if the numbers agree...

Most Prolific

Spielberg: 36 Movies (including The Dish—scheduled for release in 2026)

Caveat: 16 of the 42 Scorsese films are documentaries. But we love docs and they most definitely still count. So Scorsese takes the "Prolific" matchup.

Adding up all the Oscar nominations that all of their films have brought in, Spielberg takes this category rather easily (although, with more non-documentary films to his name, that should probably be the case given how great both filmmakers are).

After the Oscars, The BAFTAs (British Academy Film Awards) are maybe the second most prestigious non-festival film awards out there. And the Brits have given Scorsese films more wins than Spielberg movies—although, as you can see, it's very close.

"Sight And Sound" Greatest Directors: Martin Scorsese

The prestigious Sight and Sound magazine has been putting out a "Greatest Films of All Time" list every 10 years since 1952. In 2002, they conducted a poll to determine the "Greatest Directors of All Time". Based on a poll of directors, Scorsese came in tied for 9th—with David Lean and Jean Renoir.

Spielberg didn't make the list.

Paul Bern Facts
April 28, 2026 Sasha Wren

Between Paul Bern’s affairs with famous stars and his mysterious death, his story has all the makings of a film noir come to life.

Some Hollywood murders just seemed to have all the right elements, and the story of Paul Bern absolutely reeks of them: a rising and beautiful starlet, a powerful MGM producer, a secret and possibly deranged ex-wife, and a white bathroom slowly filling with blood. This absolutely true story even has a butler in it—although I'm pretty sure he didn’t do it. There is one thing that this story lacks, though: someone behind bars. So, get out your fedora and fingerprint kit: these facts may just lead you to solving the mystifying case of Paul Bern.
Miles Davis
April 27, 2026 Miles Rook

Miles Davis’s jazz genius and wild partying ways couldn’t hide the fact that he had a terrifying dark side.

No one can say that Miles Davis lacked talent, or that he didn't have an enormous effect on the modern jazz movement. Most of Davis’ issues were with his personal life. He said he loved women, but his poor treatment of them was infamous. Second in line after women was his love of mind-altering substances. But at the root of all of his problems was his hot temper, and it led to one of the most ironic passings of all time.

Hollywood tried to destroy Olivia de Havilland—she took them all down instead

From the outside, Olivia de Havilland’s career looked like total success. But behind the scenes, something wasn’t right.
