Every Number 1 Song, Show, Movie And More From 1975—Ready To Feel Nostalgic?

Number One In '75

Did you know that back in 1975, a shark movie was the biggest film in the world and people were excited to get a rock as a gift (yes, a literal rock)? Like it or not, these were the songs, shows, movies, books, and even toys that were number one back in 1975. And while some have stood the test of time—others were probably forgotten by 1976. How many of them do you remember?

Number One Movie (Box Office)

Movie: Jaws

If Universal Pictures kept their box office returns in a boat—they needed a bigger one after the release of Jaws. Often referred to as the first blockbuster, Jaws wasn't just the highest grossing movie of the year in 1975, it was the highest grossing movie of all time (until Star Wars came along in 1977).

Number One Toy

Toy: Pet Rock

The best-selling toy of 1975 was the Pet Rock. The rock came in a box with ventilation holes and sat on a bed of straw (you know, just like a pet carrier).

The Pet Rock was introduced in August of 1975 and discontinued (due to low sales) by February of 1976. But in between those months, there were upwards of 1.5 million sold.

After all was said and done,

Captain & Tennille's "Love Will Keep Us Together" was named the number one song of the year on Billboard's year-end chart.
